Starz ”Outlander” – sci fi drama about woman traveling in time from 1945 to 1743 and falling in love in both “timezones”. Based on books by Diana Gabaldon. 16 episode order at the end of May 2013. ABCOnce Upon A Time in Wonderland” [CANCELLED] (previously “Once: Wonderland”) - long expected “Once Upon A Time” spin off show project from late February 2013 originally based around character of Mad Hatter from series one. After  Sebastian Stan was not available to reprise the role the projects focus shifted towards unaired character of Alice (of the Wonderland fame). Casting started in late March 2013. ShowtimePenny Dreadful”  vampire hunter project set in 19th century London and involving ensamble of legendary characters such as as Van Helsing, Dorian Gray and Doctor Frankenstein in their quest of hunting vampires. Project is led by John Logan and Sam Mendes. In early January 2013 project has received a series commitment, with production to begin in London in the second half of 2013. [Syfy] “Bitten” 13 episode Canadian werewolf drama originally produced for Entertainment One and focusing on the world’s only female werewolf trying to live as a human and working as a photographer in Toronto. Cast: Ali Larter, Sean Bean, Amber Valletta, Rob Mayes, Steve Harris, Tina Majorino, Morris Chestnut. 10 episode series order in early May 2013.

StarzBlack Sails” [RENEWED] Michael Bay-produced pirate drama following Captain Flint and his crew 20 years before events in Stevenson’s “Treasure Island”. Pre-production started in South Africa in July 2012, sets and boats are being built. 8 episodes planned for 2014 in Spartacus slot. AMCTurn” period drama about 18th century farmer who with help of childhood friends forms spy unit during America’s fight for independence. Based on “ Washington’s Spies, Turn” by Alexander Rose. Ordered in late November 2012. Cast: Jamie Bell, Meegan Warner, Daniel Henshall, Seth Numrich, Heather Lind, Kevin McNally, Angus Macfadyen, J.J. Field.  Premiered on  April 6, 2014

NBCCrossbones” Story of  Edward “Blackbeard” Teach and his pirates reign over waters around the the island of New Providence in The Bahamas. From  Neil Cross the creator of “Luther”. Hugh Laurie was negotiations as lead in November 2012. Ultimately John Malkovich is headlining the show since mid 2013. Based on the book “The Republic of Pirates” by Colin Woodard. Ten episodes initial order. Cast: John Malkovich,  Richard Coyle, Claire Foy, Tracy Ifeachor. David Hoflin, Yasmine Al Massri, Julian Sands. NBC Friday 10:00/9:00c slot. Expected mid season 2014.

[BET] “The Book Of Negroes” miniseries following West African woman captured and sold into slavery in South Carolina. Adaptation of bestselling novel by Lawrence Hill. Production set to autumn 2013.

ABC “Chasing Life” soap about young woman diagnosed with a terminal illness. Based on Mexican soap “Terminales”. Script purchased in summer 2011. Pilot deal reports surfaced in mid September 2012. Cast: Italia Ricci, Aisha Dee, Mary Page Keller ,Richard Brancatisano and Haley Ramm. 13 episode initial order.

 

MEDICAL

NBC ”The Night Shift” (formerly “After Hours”/”The Last Stand” –  NBC dusted off 2011 project – medical drama about group of army doctors returning to a night shift in one of the San Antonio hospitals. Project wasn’t picked up to series last season (green light was given to midseason “Do No Harm” instead) but as of August 2012 studio and network has ordered new script marking the project for possible return in 2013. Off cycle pilot order reported in early October 2012. Backup scripts ordered in April 2012. Cast: Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Freddy Rodriguez, Ken Leung and Jeananne Goossen, Brigid Brannagh, Daniella Alonso. Exepected in 2014.

Renewed for second season of 6 episodes in January 2014.

[Hallmark] “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” (formerly “Dead Letters”) comedy about group of people working in Dead Letter Office who are tasked with delivering every lost letter in the system to its destination. Cast: Daphne Zuniga, Kristin Booth, Crystal Lowe and Geoff Gustafson. 10 episode order set for second quarter of 2014 in addition to the two hour backdoor pilot scheduled to be broadcasted on October 12, 2013.

FOXUs & Them” [CANCELLED] (formerly: “Friends And Family”) romcom about long distance relationship based on  2007 British low brow niche series “Gavin & Stacey”. Cast: Jason Ritter, Dustin Ybarra, Alexis Bledel, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Kurt Fuller, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Ian Black. 13 episode order. Scheduled for midseason 2014. On production hiatus after filming six episodes as of October 2013. Unhappy with quality of scripts the network decided to postpone production indefinitely,
